Congress Information
The 2009 Congress theme “Building Our Healthcare System around People and their Needs” is focusing on the three sub themes of Building People, Building Services/Systems and Building Infrastructure. ACHSE has partnered with the Centre for Health Assets Australasia (CHAA), FBE, University of New South Wales to host this year’s event. This joint approach will provide a broader program with significant attraction for national & international presenters. CHAA was established in 2005 to undertake research and development work in the area of health asset and facility management. The partnership arrangement with ACHSE and CHAA will expand its typical health management focus by exploring current and emerging problems in the sustainability, design, financing and research of health facilities.

| ABOUT THE CENTRE FOR HEALTH ASSETS AUSTRALASIA (CHAA) |
The Centre for Health Assets Australasia was established in 2005 to undertake research and development work in the area of health asset facility management. CHAA is hosted by the Faculty of the Built Environment at the University of New South Wales and supported by the Australasian Health Infrastructure Alliance (AHIA).
The Centre has a focus on the research and development of systems, policies and tools to advance delivery of health asset and facility management services in Australia and New Zealand. It is responsible for the development of Australasian Health Facility Guidelines which enable health facilities throughout Australasia to use a common set of base elements as a guide to best practice approach to planning, standard spatial components and flexible planning tools.
The vision of the Centre is “to be the Australasian focal point of research, knowledge creation and information dissemination for health facility asset management and to contribute to the delivery of healthcare of the highest quality through research outcomes which enhance the design, procurement and management of health facilities.”
The delegates attending this Congress will be the key decision makers for future resource and purchasing decisions in the health sector throughout Australasia. They will include CEOs, senior managers, policy makers, researchers, health planners, architects, project directors/managers, facility managers and other design/construction professionals and related professionals. Many senior clinicians and managers from the aged care and capital works sectors will be in attendance. The 2009 Congress theme will be very relevant to all of these groups.
